The road reaches Chora at the top of the cliff, so that is where you arrive. Everything else is below you: where you sleep, where you eat, the pool, and at the bottom a wooden deck with a ladder into the water.

The sea
A wooden deck, six loungers and a steel ladder. Lunch comes down in the lift if you ask before noon.

Level 2
One long table, and a few small ones.
Breakfast runs until eleven because nobody here is in a hurry. Dinner is one set menu, cooked over vine wood, built on what the boats and the two farms above the village brought that day.

A day here
The day runs downhill.
Nobody plans it this way. You start where the light is and end where the water is, and the lift does the rest.

The corner room, June
Nobody told us where to be or when. The table was simply laid when we came up from the water.

The cave suite, September
Five levels and I never once looked at a map. You go down until you are wet, then up until you are fed.

Getting here
The road ends at level five.
There is no airport on Folegandros, which is most of the reason it looks the way it does. You come by sea, and we are on the quay when you do.

Notes from the house and the island.

Getting here ·
The ferry is part of it
Three hours fifty from Piraeus on the fast boat, and why we tell guests not to fly to Santorini first.

The island ·
What the potter leaves at the door
Every jug on the table is thrown eleven kilometres away, in Ano Meria. A visit to the workshop.

The house ·
Level five at half past seven
The roof is at its best for about forty minutes a day. A note on timing your first evening.
Questions
Before you write to us.
If yours is not here, the desk answers every day between eight and eight.
How do I get to Folegandros?
By sea. The fast boat from Piraeus takes three hours fifty, and there are daily boats from Santorini and Milos in season. We meet every ferry at the port.
Can I stay if I cannot manage stairs?
Yes. The lift serves all six levels, including the swimming deck, and every room is reached without a step. Two rooms on level 3 are fully adapted.
When are you open?
From the middle of April to the end of October. The sea is warm enough to swim from late May.
Do you take children?
Children of all ages are welcome in the family suite. The other rooms take guests of twelve and over, mostly because of the terraces.
What is included in the rate?
Breakfast at the table, the port transfer, the pool and the swimming deck, and morning yoga on the roof. Dinner, the spa and boat trips are extra.
